Annual Concerts
MINT Riffs
MINT Riffs is the official Glee Club of Meridian International College composed of college students from different levels and courses that are musically inclined to singing and dancing.
The word “MINT” came from the name of the school, “Meridian International, while “Riff” is referred to an improvised pattern of a guitar chord, usually played in popular music and jazz.
Year-2012 marked the birth of the singing group. It all began with a wise decision of their professor, Mr. Eugene Villaluz, Program Head of Music Business Management, member of The New Minstrels and VIVA Entertainment. He thought of forming a Glee Club organization for the school so students may grab the opportunity to showcase their talents. A glee club is basically a musical choir or singing group that can perform contemporary music. The music they play consists of Rock, Pop, RnB, Musical and OPM (Original Pinoy Music).
A few months ago, March 22, 2013, the MINT Riffs had their first-ever concert held at Teatrino, Greenhills, Promenade, entitled, “NEON”. It showcased 16 musical numbers varying four aspects of the students’ life of MINT College: Neos, Element, Outstand, Neon Lights. “A group of Neophytes being exposed to new and different elements outstanding among the crowd just like neon lights, different colors but all shining extremely bright.”
Due to the over-all success of the event, the production team of MINT Riffs declared to do a concert annually by the end of the school year. Four months of rehearsals and preparation for the concert was a roller coaster ride but it totally paid off!
Thanks to MINT Riffs’ very own Director, Music Arranger, and Founder of the Glee Club, Mr. Dino Alvarez. If not for his patience, faith and guidance for the group, the event won’t be a success; nevertheless, it became a dream come true for these young talented musicians.
Music has been their passion. Music drove these young musicians to join the club. Being a MINT Riff is fun. Everybody enjoys the company of each other. Every practice session is an exciting journey for them because it teaches them to grow as individuals and as performers. It is not all about performing but it brings out the talent they can do and what others cannot do.
In the year of 2014, MINT Riffs held their second concert once again in Teatrino, Greenhills, Promenade, entitled “BIYAHE” which represented MINT Riffs’ journey throughout the two years it has been running.
On October 16, 2014, MINT Riffs was officially recognised as an official organization of MINT College with their newly elected officers taking their oaths on that very same day.
